Daterra farms are located in the Cerrado region of Minas Gerais and the Franca region of Sao Paulo. They call it Daterra farms, farms plural, because it is a huge network of farms. I mean HUGE.
We hear a lot about how it is good to support the small farmer or to buy fair trade. Don’t get me wrong they are really great things, but Daterra is a great example of buying from the big guys.
They are leaders in research, environmental responsibility, social responsibility, and growing great coffee.
Most of Primavera’s coffee comes in jute bags weighing about 150 pounds. The best quality Daterra’s are packaged in 26 pound bags that are vacuum sealed. While green coffee has about a years shelf life before it is “old crop” and starts losing its original flavor notes, the vacuum sealed Daterra’s age well. One of the coffees we are bringing in is a 2005 Daterra Reserve. Today it is possible to purchase a 2003 Daterra Reserve, for a higher price than the 2005. A vintage coffee with the same flavor notes as when it was a “new crop”, thanks to innovative packaging.
Primavera’s 2005 Daterra Reserve will be roasted for espresso, just into the 2nd crack for you roasting geeks. Look for it starting on Friday, November 17th.
